Some programs are absolutely outstanding. Others are the bottom of the pile. There are places like Duke U. doing their MBA online and that MBA has much more value than one from say, Eastern Yourstate State College in the classroom.

The thing is, online at a quality school is really hard. There's a lot of writing to do and you don't get the 1:1 time with the instructor. You have to be a top-notch manager of time to do well in these programs.

The best advice, attend the best school you can get into (online or classroom) and do the best quality work you are able while there.
References :
An interesting discussion. You may be disillusioned with the Masters students you hired because you did not look at the best people available. Higher education is not a risk avoidance program. Many students risk taking on a lot of debt to gain knowledge they can apply in a job. Many MBA students graduate and become entrepreneurs, and many of them succeed. It is not surprising that MBA graduates are sought by employers who are willing to pay for the value of the degree. The employers who are not willing to pay well get the leftovers who did not do well in their school. You can't expect those students to know how to apply the education they did not earn.
References :
I say it depends on your learning style. In order to do it online, you must be well disciplined in setting your priorities, sitting down to study, doing homework/projects.

For me, an online degree wouldn't work. I'm a huge procrastinator, have 3 kids in school which means parent guided homework and it just plain doesn't keep my interest. I like the classroom setting.

I do have an instructor who's using Univ of Phoenix for his Masters.
References :
You're talking about an MBA. That's one type of Master's. I have a job offer after my master with a starting pay of $90,000. My friend has one in computer science and started at $125,000. She manages a lot of those who only have a Bachelor's. We both can also teach at community college. You can't do that with a Bachelor's...it's worth a lot.

Response:

1. You CANNOT be an adjunct professor WITHOUT a PhD at any good university.
2. I didn't say she had no management experience, did I? It's not wise to make assumptions - especially if you hire people. She has a few years of it. She's also so good at it she's had several raises.
3. Do you know how much community college professors make? Did you know they have tenure? You know they have great health benefits? I'd rather have job security than work for someone who owns a business that many or may not last.

Also, don't put down anyone's academic achievements. At my school less than 15% get in. At her's it was less than 10%. We also both got amazing scholarships. Anybody can start a business. It doesn't matter what qualifications you have. In order to get into graduate school you need to have a plethora of qualifications.
References :
Oxford University is teaching this substantially online now.

Be aware that International Law isn't a practitioner degree. The JD or LLB will be required for that; and so far, online options are both limited and relatively unsuccessful.
References :
If you are wanting to eventually work as a drug and alcohol counselor this is a fine way to go. To practice any counseling or psychotherapy you need minimally a masters degree in psychology, counseling, or social work. With a masters in psychology or counseling you can be licensed as an LPC (licensed professional counselor) this license may be called something else depending on the state in which you live. As a social worker with a masters degree you can get licensed as such LCSM, MSW just depending on the state and your degree. There are additional certification programs you can earn like an LCDC (in texas..Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor). I would encourage you to examine each of the degrees and see if it fits with your views and also your goals in your career.

Getting a masters degree is difficult and you will need lots of family support in the process. Good luck and be sure to research any decision you may make about schooling.

If you want to get your doctorate I would suggest getting a doctorate in psychology. This way you can practice in more
References :
The most I can tell you is to stay away from for-profit proprietary schools such as University of Phoenix.

Their classes are overpriced and their credits and degrees carry no respect.
